The Lindenwood women's basketball team (0-1, 0-0 GLVC) suffered a season-opening loss to No. 8 Ashland (1-0, 0-0 G-MAC) on the road on Friday.

GAME OVERVIEW
Entering halftime, the Lions trailed the Eagles, 45-20. The team shot 34.8 percent from the field, and 28.6 percent on threes, in the first 20 minutes of the contest. In the first half, Lindenwood was 2-2 on free throw attempts. Turnovers, however, doomed the Lindenwood offense as the Lions coughed up the ball 18 times allowing for 25 Ashland points off of turnovers. Both teams tallied two blocked shots in the opening half.

In the third quarter, the Lindenwood offense exploded for 21 points on 52.9 percent shooting from the field. Sophia Horton scored four points for the team in the third period of the game while making her collegiate debut. The Lions rattled off 12 points in the fourth quarter to give them 33 total points in the second half. After making 18 turnovers in the first half, Lindenwood turned the ball over just six times in the final 30 minutes.

BOX SCORE LEADERS

• Julia Ruzevich posted a team-best 15 points. Ellen McCorkle also reached double figures with 13 points.
• Hennessey Handy and McCorkle led the Lions with five rebounds, each.
• Devin Fuhring and Gracie Neff finished with three assists.
• Jamie Bain's two steals were tops on the squad.
• Mary McGrath, Nicole Hernandez, and McCorkle all tallied a blocked shot.
