Romero Wins Championship at Lindenwood Open

The Lindenwood wrestling team had several strong performances at the 10th Annual Lindenwood Open on Saturday, including junior Abner Romero winning the 174 lb bracket in the Open Division. The reigning NCAA Champion at 174, is the first Lindenwood wrestler to win the title in the Open Division since the event went to a two-division format in 2013.

Romero went 3-0 on the day including wins over three NCAA Division I wrestlers, including a 9-7 decision in the finals over Missouri's Sean Harman who defeated Romero two weeks ago at the Maryville Open.

Other top performers for the Lions included Jack Tangen and Luke Dickhaus. Tangen, a sophomore from Glenview, Illinois went 2-2 on the day and finished 4th at 149 in the Open Division. Dickhaus, a freshman from Eureka, Missouri dropped his first match at 197, but went on to win his next three, including a major decision and two pins, and finished 3-2 on the day.

The Lions had several young wrestlers wrestling unattached with very successful days as well.

The Lions will take the Thanksgiving weekend off and return to action with several wrestlers headed to the Drury Open in Springfield, Missouri on Saturday, December 4.
