The Lindenwood women's hockey team (1-13-0, 1-3-0 CHA) fell in overtime by a score of 4-3 to Bemidji State (4-8-2, 1-8-1 WCHA) on Saturday afternoon from Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.
GAME OVERVIEW
Both teams were locked in a defensive battle early as each team compiled just four shots through the first six minutes of play Shortly after, Lindenwood earned a powerplay, but It would be the Beavers netting a shorthanded goal for the second-consecutive game, giving them a 1-0 lead at the 8:26 mark of the opening frame. On that same man advantage,
Sierra Burt found the back of the net tying the game less than a minute later.
Sena Takenaka and
Morgan Neitzke picked up assist on the goal. Each team continued to trade chances throughout the opening period, as the game remained 1-1 after 20 minutes of play.
Bemidji State earned a couple early powerplay opportunities to open the second frame. The beaver would capitalize on one, taking a 2-1 lead at the 5:00 minute mark of the second period. Lindenwood would earn a man advantage of its own late in the frame as
Megan Wagner picked up a powerplay tally from
Chloe Corbin and
Kayla Martinez, again tying the game, this time 2-2. Less than a minute later, Bemidji State would regain its lead, 3-2 and take that advantage into the locker room. In the frame,
Natalie Ferenc made seventeen saves.
Lindenwood kept battling trying to get that game-tying goal, as the period moved along. Ferenc went to the bench with just over two minutes to go in the game. With the extra attacker on the ice,
Valerie Caldwell was able to poke the puck past the Beavers netminder with just under two minutes remaining.
Maddison Stitt picked up an assist on the goal. The game would head into overtime., 3-3.
In overtime, Corbin had an excellent chance, but was denied by the Beaver netminder. Less than a minute later, Bemidji State came back the other way during the three-on-three OT and netted the game-winning score.
