Women's Basketball Stats Conference Play with 69-62 Victory

The Lindenwood women's basketball team (1-4, 1-0 GLVC) won its first game of the season with a 69-62 victory over Maryville (3-3, 0-1 GLVC) on Monday night in Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.
 
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions took a 10-7 lead inside four minutes remaining in the first quarter, but the Saints quickly regained the lead on a four-point swing.  Neither team scored in the final 2:39, as Maryville held an 11-10 advantage after 10 minutes of play.  Lindenwood turned the ball over seven times and was 0-for-5 from behind the arc, but the Lions made adjustments in the second quarter.  Near the halfway point of the second frame, Devin Fuhring grabbed her own rebound a got the bucket to put Lindenwood in front 24-18.  Lindenwood built a seven-point lead near the end of the half, but Maryville cut the Lindenwood lead to 28-27 at the break.
 
The Lions picked up the pace in the third quarter, as Julia Ruzevich gave Lindenwood a 39-33 lead at the 5:04 mark.  In a span of 1:33, Lindenwood went on a 9-0 run to take a 48-37 advantage with 1:57 to go in the third quarter.  In that span, Gracie Neff hit a big three-pointer after registering a steal on the defensive end.  Heading into the final quarter, Lindenwood held an eight-point lead with the help of 22 points in the third frame.
 
The Saints clawed back to a two-point deficit near the halfway point of the fourth quarter.  However, the Lions stood strong on defense and held Maryville to just seven points in the final 4:43 to earn the seven-point victory.  Lindenwood was active on the boards, as the Lions outrebounded the Saints 45-28, including 16 offensive rebounds.  Ruzevich led all scorers with 24 points, as she added eight rebounds, three blocks, and two assists.  Neff and Fuhring combined for 11 assists, while Fuhring dropped 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field.  Lindenwood picked up 17 points off turnovers and compiled 14 second-chance points in Monday's victory.
