Ferenc Makes 50 Saves in 4-1 Loss For Women's Hockey

The Lindenwood women's hockey team (1-9-0, 1-3-0 CHA) dropped its game with Penn State on Saturday afternoon by a score of 4-1 from University Park, Pa.

GAME OVERVIEW
Penn State took an early lead, getting on the board at the 2:35 mark of the opening frame. The Nittany Lions kept up the pressure throughout the period, but the Lindenwood defense was strong, blocking 17 Penn State shots, while killing off all four powerplay opportunities from the Nittany Lions. Natalie Ferenc had a strong period between the pipes, stooping 19 shots.

The Nittany Lions carried the pace of play in the second period, compiling 14 shots on goal, while Lindenwood managed just three. All that pressure allowed Penn State to extend its lead to 2-0 at the 7:36 mark of the second frame Ferenc made 13 more saves during the second 20 minutes of play, bringing her total to 32 after 40, but Lindenwood trailed 2-0.

The Nittany Lions earned a pair of man advantage opportunities early in the third period, converting on one, making the score 3-0 just over six minutes into the final frame. Penn State carried that 3-0 advantage throughout the period, taking on an empty netter with under a minute to go in the game. Lindenwood would avoid the shutout, as Maddison Stitt netted her third goal of the year, a powerplay tally from Kaitlin Finnegan, seeing the game reach its final result of 4-1.
