The Lindenwood women's hockey team (1-10-0, 1-9-0 CHA) fell by a score of 5-3 to No. 9 Clarkson (10-1-2, 4-0-0 ECAC) on Friday night from Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo. The Lions score two goals in the final frame but couldn't complete the comeback.
GAME OVERVIEW
The penalty kill was the story for each team through the first 10 minutes of play as Lindenwood killed off three Clarkson powerplays, including a five on three, while the Golden Knights killed off two Lion man advantages. Clarkson was the first team to light the lamp in the game, taking a 1-0 lead at the 15:16 mark of the opening frame. Just over a minute later, the Golden Knights capitalized on a Lindenwood turnover, converting a breakaway to double its lead. Shortly after
Teagan Heaslip buried a loose puck in front of the net for her first collegiate goal.
Megan Wagner and
Sierra Burt picked up assists on the tally.
The scoring continued as Clarkson found the back of the net after winning an offensive zone draw with just seven seconds remaining in the opening period, as the score was 3-1 after 20 minutes of play.
Clarkson added two more goals across the second 20 minutes, as the Golden Knights held a commanding 5-1 lead after two periods. In the second frame, Lindenwood compiled 15 shots, including eight on goal.
Despite the deficit, the Lions kept battling.
Jada Burke tipped a
Casey Adimey shot, which snuck by the Clarkson netminder, making the score 5-2 at the 9:45 mark of the third period,
Valerie Caldwell recorded an assist on the goal. Just over three minutes later, Burt took a feed from
Kayla Martinez, which beat the goalie short side, making the score 5-3. That would be as close as Lindenwood would get, seeing Clarkson earn the 5-3 win.
