Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey Sweeps St. Thomas With 4-1 Win

The Lindenwood women's hockey team (5-13-0, 3-3-0 CHA) picked up its fourth-consecutive victory and second-straight series sweep after defeating St. Thomas (4-13-1, 2-11-1 WCHA), 4-1 on Saturday afternoon from Centene Community Ice Center.

GAME OVERVIEW
The game presented a tight checking first 10 minutes, as each team saw few high-quality scoring chances. Shortly after, Megan Wagner got loose behind the Tommies net and buried a wrap-around chance, giving Lindenwood a 1-0 lead at the 10:54 mark of the opening period. Sierra Burt and Sena Takenaka found Wagner for the score. A few minutes later, the Lions earned a powerplay. On that man advantage, Casey Adimey roofed a shot past the Tommies netminder, assisted by Burt and Takenaka, again, giving Lindenwood a 2-0 lead late in the frame, which would be the score after 20 minutes of play.

Both teams put the puck towards the net in the second period, as St. Thomas compiled 29 shots, including 16 on goal, while Lindenwood registered 19 shots, 11 of which were on frame. Julia Maguire and the Lions penalty kill were strong in the second period, killing off all three St. Thomas powerplay opportunities, while Maguire stopped all 16 shots as the Tommies made a push. Midway through the frame, Kayla Martinez drove wide, took a shot that was saved, but Sydney Rarick pounced on the rebound, as Lindenwood thought it had taken a 3-0 lead, but the goal was nullified due to a kicking motion. Lindenwood would continue to hold a two-goal advantage after 40 minutes.

Lindenwood stretched its lead to 3-0 early in the final frame as Rachel Goff took a pass from Valerie Caldwell and used her speed to finish off the breakaway chance. Adimey also picked up an assist on the tally. Two minutes later, St. Tomas cut into the deficit, making it 3-1 at the 5:54 mark of the period. That would be as close as they would get, however with Lindenwood maintain the lead and sealing the victory with an Adimey empty netter with less than 2 minutes to go.

The Lions finished off the Tommies, 4-1 and won their fourth-consecutive game. This marks the first time Lindenwood has won four-straight since the 2011-12 season,
