Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Fuhring, Ruzevich Lead Women's Basketball to Road Victory on Sunday

The Lindenwood women's basketball team (3-5) picked up a 67-65 win over Parkside (5-5) on Sunday in Kenosha, Wis.

GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood fell behind early in the game, but a layup by Hennessey Handy at the 5:44 mark gave the Lions their first lead at 5-7.  The Lions closed out the quarter on a strong run, as a three-pointer by Julia Ruzevich put Lindenwood ahead 19-10 after the first 10 minutes of play.  The two squads battled back-and-forth in the second quarter, but eight points in the frame by Ruzevich kept the Lions in front 35-30 at the half.

Parkside pulled within two points early in the second half after a three-point bucket.  Lindenwood proceeded to go on a 7-0 run, including five points from Devin Fuhring to put the lead back at nine points.  Near the halfway point of the third quarter, Fuhring gave Lindenwood a 47-37 lead on a fast-break layup.  Less than two minutes later, Fuhring knocked down a three pointer, as the Lions secured a 14-point advantage after three quarters of play.

After taking a 16-point lead, Parkside clawed back and slowly cut into its deficit.  With 1:40 to go in regulation, the Rangers pulled within one, and less than a minute later they tied the game at 65-65.  Emily Benzschawel drew a foul with seven seconds remaining, and knocked down both at the charity stripe.  Parkside failed to tie the game in the final seconds, as Lindenwood held on for the 67-65 victory on the road.
