The Lindenwood women's basketball team (9-9, 9-9 GLVC) completed a comeback victory against McKendree (8-13, 8-13 GLVC), 75-73 on Saturday.
The Lions shot 41.9 percent from the field in the first half, 18.2 percent from deep, and 78.6 percent at the free throw line as they entered the break down, 48-39.
Ellen McCorkle and
Grace Neff each recorded a team-high 10 points in the first 20 minutes. The Lions' biggest lead of the first half was four points, coming midway through the first quarter. 22 of Lindenwood's first half points were scored in the paint, and 10 of the team's 39 points were on second chance opportunities.
The second half saw the Lions clamp down on defense, allowing just 25 points to McKendree, while scoring 36. The team upped its shooting percentage to 42.4 percent, while going 27.3 percent on threes, and 71.4 percent from the line. McCorkle's 20 second half points helped lead the comeback effort for the Lions, as she also added nine rebounds. Lindenwood continued to dominate inside the paint, scoring 22 of its 36 points in the interior.
INSIDE THE PLAYS
- The Lions jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the opening quarter on layups from Hennessey Handy and Grace Neff.
- The two teams would go back-and-forth before McKendree closed out the quarter on a 5-0 run to enter the second quarter up, 21-18.
- The Bearcats took control in the second period, outscoring the Lions, 27-21.
- Entering halftime, the Lions trailed, 48-39.
- The third period was dominated by Lindenwood, as the team put up 21 points while holding the opposition to 10.
- After trailing by as many as 10 points, an 8-0 scoring run and defensive stops helped the Lions close out the quarter with a 60-58 lead.
- The two teams battled in the fourth, with both squads scoring 15 points. Lindenwood would ultimately come out victorious, however, as the team forced a missed three-pointer by McKendree in the final seconds.
- The Lions move back to .500 and halt their four-game losing skid with the win.
