The Lindenwood women's basketball team (10-9, 10-9) picked up its second-straight win with a 67-58 showing against Quincy (2-16, 2-16 GLVC) on senior night.
Entering halftime, the Lions led the Hawks, 35-33. As a team, Lindenwood shot 51.7 percent from the field in the first half, 28.6 percent from deep, and 60.0 percent at the free throw line.
Julia Ruzevich led all scorers with 16 points in the opening 20 minutes of the game. Off the bench,
Kate Ruzevich had four assists, three rebounds and a steal for the team. The Lions outscored the Hawks, 26-20, in the paint.
Lindenwood put the clamps down defensively in the second half, holding Quincy to 25 points spread across the final two quarters, while scoring 32 points. The Lions shot 46.4 percent from the field, 22.2 percent on threes, and 50.0 percent at the charity stripe in the half. The team's biggest lead in the second half was 15 points, coming midway through the fourth period.
Devin Fuhring scored a team-best nine points, while notching five rebounds, over the final 20 minutes.
INSIDE THE PLAYS
- A Julia Ruzevich layup off of a Quincy turnover game Lindenwood a seven-point lead in the final seconds of the first quarter.
- That lead widened to as much as nine points in the second frame, before a 5-0 scoring run from the Hawks closed the gap to two points entering halftime.
- Both teams were held scoreless in the opening minute of the third quarter.
- Ellen McCorkle started the second half scoring for the Lions with two made free throws at the 8:50 mark.
- A Devin Fuhring layup off of a Julia Ruzevich assist pushed the third quarter lead to 14 points in favor of Lindenwood.
- The third quarter was dominated by the Lions, 18-10, as the Hawks were held to 21.7 percent shooting from the field.
- A Hennessey Handy three-pointer gave Lindenwood its biggest lead of the night, at 15 points, as the team would not look back.
