Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Coyne Scores in 3-1 Loss to Mercyhurst on Sunday

The Lindenwood women's hockey team (2-13-1, 2-13-1 CHA) fell in the series finale against Mercyhurst (9-5-1, 9-5-1 CHA) on Sunday by a final score of 3-1.  Bailey Coyne scored the lone goal for the Lions.

GAME OVERVIEW

Mercyhurst once again got out to an early lead, going ahead 1-0 at the 3:45 mark of the opening period.   The Lions would keep battling and tie the game 1-1 as Bailey Coyne found the back of the net for the second time this season. Sena Takenaka picked up an assist on the goal. Five minutes later, the Lakers would regain the lead and take that 2-1 advantage into the locker room.  Despite the high-scoring period, there were few chances for both teams as Mercyhurst registered just seven shots on goal, while Lindenwood had just six. Both teams killed off a pair of powerplay opportunities in the period.

The Lions continued to battle in the second but couldn't get much going offensively during the second 20 minutes.  The Lions tallied just four shots on goal in the frame.  Mercyhurst would add to their lead at the 8:59 mark, making the score 3-1 and hold that lead after 40 minutes of play.

Lindenwood made some offensive adjustments during the break and were able to put some pressure on the Lakers in the final frame.  The Lions registered 10 shots on goal and had an opportunity on the powerplay but were unable to find the back of the net.  The defense was stout for the Lions in the third, as Julia Maguire stopped all 11 shots faced, but the Lakers earned the 3-1 victory.
