The No. 13 Lindenwood men's lacrosse team (2-1, 2-1 GLVC) suffered its first loss of the season in overtime against Maryville (1-0, 1-0 GLVC) by a final score of 8-7 on Wednesday afternoon from St. Louis, Mo.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions led 6-4 after the first 30 minutes of play. Lindenwood outshot the Saints 32-15 in the opening half, while scooping up 17 ground balls and causing eight Maryville turnovers.
Carter Collins scored three goals in the first half. The Prior Lake, Minn native has tallied three or more goals in every contest this season. The Lions have also outshot their opponent in the first half of every game this year.
The defense for each team was strong in the second half, as Lindenwood allowed just 11 shots in the half, while Maryville surrendered 31. Despite the shot attempts, the Lions managed to find the back of the net only once during the second 30 minutes of play. The Saints stout defense kept the game close and as they tied the contest 7-7 late in the fourth quarter. The Lions has a shot at the Maryville, net in the final seconds, but the attempt went wide.
In overtime, the saints won the opening faceoff and got set up in the offensive zone. After a timeout, Maryville was able to find the back of the net at the 3:02 mark and pick up the 8-7 victory.
