The Lindenwood women's soccer team (1-0-0, 1-0-0 GLVC) earned a 1-0 shutout over Illinois Springfield (0-1-0, 0-1-0 GLVC) in its season opener.
Maggie Weller scored the game winner in the 59th minute of the match.
MATCH OVERVIEW
In the first half, Lindenwood outshot the Prairie Starts 6-5 and had six more corner kicks than Illinois Springfield. The 18th minute brought the best chance for the Lions in the opening half came from one of those corner kicks, but UIS was able to clear it off the line and keep the game scoreless.
Lindenwood broke the deadlock in the 59th minute when Weller found the back of the net in her first game as a Lion off a nice pass from
Bailey Bologna. The Lions were able to protect the lead for the rest of the match and pick up a 1-0 shutout to open the season.
The Lions defense continued their strong play from a year ago, allowing just four shots on goal in the game.
