The Lions came from behind twice in regulation before scoring the winning goal short-handed with just 20-seconds remaining in overtime to defeat Missouri State 3-2 Friday night at the Jordan Valley Ice Park in Springfield, Missouri.
The Bears jumped in front in the first period and carried a 1-0 advantage into the second before
Andy Willis found the back of the net off a pass from
Connor Bradley at 3:35 to tie the game 1-1, but Missouri State responded with a second goal with 10:17 left in the period. Lindenwood came back with an equalizer again off the blade of
Vegard Faret on a play set up by
Brendan Murphy and
Hayden Ursulak at the 15:50 mark.
The game stayed knotted at 2-2 through the rest of the second and the entirety of the third. In the extra five-minutes of overtime, both teams had opportunities to win, but the biggest chance appeared to go in the direction of the Bears after the Lions were called for a penalty, but Lindenwood turned the tables.
Kyler Newman and Murphy grabbed the puck from Missouri State and set up Faret for the short-handed victory with just 20-seconds left in overtime.
The Lions outshot the Bears 40 to 19 and
Cooper Seedott stopped 17 of 19 shots to earn the win in goal. The two squads wrap up the series Saturday night with the puck-drop at 7 p.m. at the Jordan Valley Ice Park.
