The Lions completed a two-game sweep of Ohio University with a 4-1 victory Wednesday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Missouri.
After most of the first period had passed, each team scored in the final two minutes. Lindenwood struck first with a goal from
Brendan Murphy at 18:26 off a pass from
Kyler Newman. The Bobcats goal came just 40 seconds later and the game was tied 1-1 after the opening 20 minutes.
The Lions took control of the contest in the second with another two goals.
Hayden Ursulak split the pipes on a play set up by
Zach Mitchell and
Andy Willis at the 5:27 mark, and then Willis and
Vegard Faret helped
Jack Radley find the back of the net on the power play with 1:17 remaining in the period.
Lindenwood clamped down on defense in the final 20 minutes while continuing to put pressure on Ohio. With time running down, the Bobcats pulled their goalie.
Matt Runyon grabbed the puck and fed Mitchell for an empty-netter with 39-seconds left in regulation for the final margin.
The Lions outshot the Bobcats 47-20 and
Cooper Seedott made 19 saves on 20 shots for the victory in goal. Lindenwood improved to 6-0-0 overall and to 2-0-0 in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League.
Lindenwood gets the weekend off before hosting Maryville February 13-14. The opening faceoff is set for 6:40 p.m. Saturday evening and 2:10 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Centene Community Ice Center.
