Women's Basketball Thwarted by UIS in Road Loss

The Lindenwood women's basketball team (8-6, 8-6 GLVC) dropped a road contest to Illinois Springfield (8-7, 8-7 GLVC), 56-46, on Tuesday.

The Lions struggled throughout the game shooting the ball, as they finished shooting 20.7 percent from the field and 18.2 percent from deep. At the free throw line, the team shot 80.0 percent on 16-20 attempts. Lindenwood finished with 36 rebounds, to UIS' 41, and 13 of the Lions' 36 rebounds were on the offensive end. Lindenwood forced 16 turnovers and received 10 points off of those turnovers, however, neither team recorded double-digit assist totals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lindenwood scored just five points in the opening quarter after shooting 6.7 percent from the field.
  • Two of the Lions' five first period points were from the free throw line (2-2).
  • The Lions outscored the Prairie Stars, 12-11, in the second quarter but entered halftime down, 25-17.
  • In the first half, Lindenwood was combined 1-12 from the three point line in the first 20 minutes.
  • The third quarter was the best showing of any period for the Lions. They amassed 19 points to UIS' 14, and shot 46.2 percent from the field.
  • Lindenwood was 5-9 on threes in the third period, while holding the Illinois Springfield to 0-2 from deep.
  • The Lions were unable to contain the 'Stars in the final quarter, as they were outscored, 17-10.
  • Lindenwood went 0-12 from deep in the final quarter, and the team was 6-33 in the game on three-pointers.
BOX SCORE LEADERS
  • Ellen McCorkle led the team with 17 points. Devin Fuhring also reached double-digits in scoring with 10 points.
  • McCorkle recorded a team-high nine rebounds. Julia Ruzevich notched eight, and Hennessey Handy had seven.
  • Fuhring and J. Ruzevich each led with two assists.
  • McCorkle had a game-high four blocks.
  • Five different Lions recorded a steal in the contest.
RECORD NOTES
  • McCorkle's four blocked shots are t-3rd all-time in a single-game in team history.
  • McCorkle moved into 3rd in team history with 29 blocked shots this season. She is five blocked shots away from owning the single-season program record.
  • McCorkle is t-6th in program history for blocked shots in a career (42). Kallie Bildner owns the record with 77.
