No. 6 Baseball Wins Two on Friday Over William Jewell

The No. 6 Lindenwood baseball team (6-0, 2-0 GLVC) picked up a pair of wins over William Jewell (1-3, 0-2 GLVC) on Friday at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.  The Lions took game one by a 3-1 margin before closing out the day with a thrilling 6-5 walk-off victory in the second game.

GAME ONE OVERVIEW
The Lions took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, as Mitchell Krebs scored the first run on a wild pitch.  Alex Canty brought in the second run as he reach on a fielder's choice in that same at bat.  Kyle Hentis allowed his only run of the season in the third inning, cutting the Lindenwood lead to just one.  Bryce Beckmann added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth to give the Lions a 3-1 lead.

Lindenwood only registered two hits in the game, but the Lions remained strong in the field to hold the Cardinals to one run.  Hentis allowed his first walk of the season in the ninth inning, as his day came to an end with two outs in the final inning.  Justin Taylor came in to get the final out of the game and earned his first save of the year.

GAME TWO OVERVIEW
William Jewell came out hot to start the second game, as the Cardinals took a 3-0 lead after the first two innings.  The Lions registered just one hit in the first four innings, but broke through in the fifth after Alex Gauspohl drove in a run on a single through the right side of the infield.  William Jewell quickly got that run back in the next half inning, but the success for the Lions was enough to spark the offense.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Beckmann and Krebs led off with back-to-back walks.  Canty brought in Beckmann on a single to left field, and Krebs brought the Lions within one after scoring on a passed ball.  The Cardinals added another run in the top of the eighth to regain a two-run lead, but the Lions did not go away.

Beckmann led off the inning with a double down the left field line, and scored on a single by Krebs.  With back-to-back singles, the Lions had bases loaded with no outs.  Lindenwood scored just one run for the rest of the inning, but it was enough to tie the game at 5-5 with one inning to play.  In the bottom of the ninth inning, Jack Lochner started off with a single to left field.  Nick Meacham entered the game as a pinch runner and swiped second base.  Kolby Schulte flied out to right field, but it was enough to move Meacham to third base.  Just two batters later, Krebs powered a single down the right field line to bring in the game-winning run.
