Lindenwood softball (7-1-1, 2-0 GLVC) poured on 25 runs in a doubleheader sweep against Illinois Springfield (5-13, 0-2 GLVC) on Friday.
GAME ONE RECAP
For the second-straight series,
Whitney Wendel kicked things off with a solo home run to start the Lindenwood scoring. The first inning solo home run would be number one of three total home runs in the game for Wendel, as she drove in a career-high six runs. She became the first player in team NCAA history with three home runs in one game.
After Illinois Springfield responded with two unearned runs in the bottom of the first, Wendel came up with a runner on first and two outs in the top of the second inning. She drove the pitch to center field, giving the Lions the 3-2 lead.
Stormee Galka responded with a scoreless bottom of the second inning, while striking out one Prairie Star. After a two-run bottom of the third by Illinois Springfield, the Lions entered the fifth inning down 4-3.
With the bases loaded,
Hannah Johnson lined a single that scored
Karli Goocher and
Morgan Gersch to retake the lead, 5-4. After two-straight outs, Wendel came up to the plate with two outs and runners on once again, and hit her third home run of the game to extend the Lindenwood lead to four runs, 8-4.
Galka closed out the win with four-straight shutout innings in the game one win over Illinois Springfield.

GAME TWO RECAP
In a high scoring effort for the Lions, Lindenwood took game two, 17-4, to secure the team's second-straight sweep.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first inning and a half, however the Prairie Stars scratched across the first run, to take a 1-0 lead entering the third frame. Lindenwood responded with a five run frame to take a 5-1 lead midway through the third inning.
Illinois Springfield would score three runs in the bottom of the third, which would be the last of the scoring for the team in the contest. Lindenwood closed out the game on a 12-0 run after the Prairie Stars closed the gap to 5-4.
With the sweep against the Prairie Stars, the Lions have now won four straight matchups, and are 2-0 in conference play to begin the season.
