Lindenwood softball (9-1-1, 4-0 GLVC) secured its third-straight sweep of a doubleheader, and fourth-straight series victory, after taking two from Quincy (5-11, 1-3 GLVC) on Tuesday.
GAME ONE RECAP
Game one of Tuesday's doubleheader featured a pitching duel between the two teams, as
Amanda Weyh fired seven scoreless innings, while striking out eight batters. It was the third complete game of the season for Weyh, and the first shutout for the sophomore pitcher.
For the first two and a half innings of the contest, only one batter reached on a base hit. In the bottom of the third,
Taylor Bushman lined a single through the left side of the infield to notch the Lions' first hit against the Hawks.
In the bottom of the fifth, Weyh led off with a double into the left center gap. A sacrifice bunt from Bushman moved Weyh to third, and
Whitney Wendel followed with a sacrifice fly to right to give the Lions the lead.
Neither team recorded more than one hit in an inning until the top of the sixth, when Quincy had runners on second and third with noouts. Weyh was able to strike out the next two batters, and get a groundout for the third out, to stand both baserunners, and hold the game at 1-0, which would be the final score.
