The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (4-9, 1-9 MIVA) was swept, 3-0, by No. 5 Lewis (13-2, 8-2 MIVA) on Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A close first set went to Lewis, 25-23.
- In the opening set, the Lions recorded 16 kills.
- The team held a 23-22 lead late in the first set, but Lewis closed out the first on a 3-0 run to go up 1-0 in the match.
- The second set was won by the Flyers, 25-17, to give them a 2-0 advantage in the match.
- Lindenwood tallied eight kills as a team in the second.
- The third and final set was pushed to extras by Lindenwood, however, Lewis was able to close the set and the match, 31-29.
- In a set full of runs, trailing 24-22, Lindenwood went on a 4-0 point streak to take a 25-24 lead.
- The Flyers were able to take the final two points in the set to earn the victory.
- As a unit, the Lions recorded a match-high 19 kills in the final set.
- The Flyers totaled all five aces in the match. The digs were almost even, with Lewis notching 30 to Lindenwood's 29.
BOX SCORE LEADERS
- AJ Lewis paced the Lions with 13 kills. Diego Negron was second with 12, and Phil Swartz tallied nine.
- AJ Lewis and Cal Werths each tallied a team-high three blocks.
- Brian Schwob led the team with 34 assists in the match.
- Phil Swartz and AJ Lewis recorded seven digs, a team-high.
