Softball Takes Two from Southwest Baptist on Sunday

Lindenwood softball (14-4-1, 9-3 GLVC) swept its second-straight doubleheader, after picking up two wins against Southwest Baptist (2-20, 1-9 GLVC) on Sunday.

GAME ONE RECAP
The Lions opened up the doubleheader with a 10-2 win against the Bearcats. Stormee Galka pitched six innings, while allowing two earned runs, and striking out four batters. Galka earned her team-leading sixth win of the season in the contest, and did not walk a Southwest Baptist hitter.

Lindenwood opened up the game with a scoreless top of the first, as Galka struckout one batter, and received two-straight lineouts to third. The team followed up with a two-run bottom of the opening frame, as Whitney Wendel and Karli Goocher each added an RBI single.

The Lions tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the second, with Galka (one RBI) and Wendel (two RBI) each driving in runners on singles. The Bearcats were held scoreless until the top of the fourth, when they scored one of their two runs for the game.

In both of the innings that Southwest Baptist scored in, Lindenwood responded with scoring frames of its own. In the bottom of the fourth, the Lions tallied one run on a Wendel single. In the bottom of the sixth, the Lions scratched across four runs to end the game early.

GAME ONE SCORING SUMMARY GAME ONE LEADERS GAME TWO RECAP
For the second-consecutive day, Amanda Weyh fired a complete game with no earned runs, this time in a 7-0 win over the Bearcats. Weyh leads the Lions with a 1.22 ERA and is second on the squad with five pitching victories.

Weyh was able to work out of the top of the first after allowing two Southwest Baptist baserunners with two outs. In the bottom of the inning, the Lions scored three runs on three hits, including an RBI double from Karli Goocher and a single from Weyh.

The bottom of the second saw more scoring from Lindenwood, as Whitney Wendel doubled on an infield popup that was carried by the wind, allowing Hannah Johnson to race home. Goocher followed with a run-scoring single that brought in Chloe Honchar.

Four the final four innings of the game, the Bearcats were held to just three base hits by Weyh, as no SBU player touched home plate in the game. Weyh has pitched a complete games seven times this season, three of which have been in shutout fashion.
