Lindenwood softball (20-8-1, 13-7 GLVC) split a Saturday doubleheader against Maryville (12-8, 10-6 GLVC) at home.
GAME ONE RECAP
Stormee Galka got the nod in game one of the doubleheader, striking out seven batters in six innings, and allowing two earned runs.
Marina Esparza came on in the top of the seventh with the bases loaded and no outs, and struck out two Saints while also inducing a ground ball out.
The Lions scored one run in the contest, while scratching across five base hits, and reaching on a walk once.
Ronni Sample, who entered the game in the bottom of the seventh frame as a pinch runner, scored the lone run for Lindenwood on a wild pitch.
Hannah Johnson was the sole Lindenwood batter to reach base twice in game one against Maryville, as the Lions stranded the game-tying base runner at third in the seventh inning. Two of the three runs in the game were scored in the seventh inning, with the other coming in the top of the fifth for the Saints.
GAME ONE LEADERS
GAME TWO RECAP
Amanda Weyh earned her team-leading ninth win of the season in a 2-0 victory over Maryville in game two. Weyh struck out seven Saints, marking the second-straight game in which the Lions recorded seven or more strikeouts against the Saints, en route to her sixth shutout of the season. Weyh has lowered her ERA back under 1.00, at 0.94.
The Lindenwood offense wasted no time getting going in game two, as
Stormee Galka led off the match with a single up the middle, and raced home to score on three-consecutive wild pitches. The other Lions run came on a bases loaded walk to
Ceairra Perez that brought home
Megan Clark.
As a team, the Lions recorded five base hits, reached base three times on walks, and were also hit by a pitch once.
Taylor Bushman and
Chloe Honchar each finished the win with a stolen base for Lindenwood.
Weyh did not allow a Maryville hitter to reach on a base hit in three of the first four innings. The Saints did not have a multi-hit inning in the game.
