The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (5-12, 2-12 MIVA) battled Purdue Fort Wayne (6-8, 6-8 MIVA) for five sets, in a 3-2 win in the Lions' final regular season match of 2021.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Lions took the opening set of the match, 28-26, to go up 1-0.
• Lindenwood recorded 15 kills to Purdue Fort Wayne's 13 in the first set.
• The two squads went back-and-forth for a majority of the set, but with the match tied at 26-26, the Lions took the final two points.
• Lindenwood took the second set in much more dominant fashion, winning 25-17.
• The Mastodons were held to a .320 hitting percentage, as the Lions recorded a .409 hitting percentage.
• Both teams notched 12 kills in the second set. AJ Lewis had six of the team's 12.
• The third set saw the Mastodons get on the board, with a 25-21 win.
• The Lions finished with 11 kills, two more than the Mastodons, but five service errors and a .097 hitting percentage doomed the team.
• Lindenwood finished with the sole block of the third set.
• In the fourth set, Purdue Fort Wayne came back late, 27-25, to even up the match at 2-2.
• The Lions tallied 14 kills in the fourth set, two less than the Mastodons.
• Lindenwood led late, 23-21, but a Purdue Fort Wayne run was too much for the team to overcome.
• The match went to a fifth and final set for the second-straight night, where the Lions came out victorious, 15-12.
• After Purdue Fort Wayne took an 8-5 lead, Lindenwood reeled off seven of the next nine points to go up, 12-10.
• With the lead extended to three points, 14-11, the Lions were able to hold on for the match victory.

BOX SCORE LEADERS

• AJ Lewis recorded a team-high 21 kills. Diego Negron was second with 19 kills.
• Brian Schwob had a match-high 49 assists.
• Diego Negron led the way for Lindenwood with three service aces.
• Alex Pappas tallied six blocks to lead the squad.
• Brian Schwob's 12 digs were tops on the team.
