Game Recap: Baseball |

Cassmeyer, Beckmann Lead No. 13 Baseball to Wins Over UMSL

The No. 13 Lindenwood baseball team (27-7, 23-7 GLVC) was led by great pitching on Friday, as the Lions swept its doubleheader over Missouri-St. Louis (12-25, 10-20 GLVC) at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

GAME ONE OVERVIEW
Tyler Cassmeyer was on point to start the series, as the Taos, Mo. native did not allow a hit until the fifth inning.  Cassmeyer pitched 8.1 strong innings for the Lions, and compiled seven strikeouts before exiting the game.  Lindenwood scored its first run of the game on an RBI single by Mitchel Krebs in the third inning.  Beau Collier increased the lead after the Lions executed the double-steal in the top of the fourth inning, as Collier swiped all three bases in that inning.

Lindenwood added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning, to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.  Justin Taylor entered the game with one out and a runner on first base in the top of the ninth, and he closed the door to secure the 3-0 victory.

GAME TWO OVERVIEW
Blake Beckmann had a dominant outing in the second game of the doubleheader, as the senior tossed a complete game.  In the process, Beckmann struck out 12 batters, as his career-high was just two strikeouts back from the program leader in the NCAA era.

In the bottom of the first, the Lions batted all the way through the lineup and scored four runs.  After scoring on an error by the Tritons, Alex Canty brought in a run on a sacrifice fly.  Logan Rezash registered an RBI single, before Jack Lochner closed out the scoring in the inning with an RBI single of his own.  Lindenwood held a 4-0 lead after the first inning, and added another run in the third after Rezash laid down a perfect bunt to execute the squeeze.  Krebs drove in a pair of runs in the sixth inning on a single through the left side to give Lindenwood a 7-1 lead.  Beckmann closed out the game with two strikeouts in the final inning to cap off a doubleheader sweep.
