The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (1-1, 0-0 GLVC) earned a 3-0 sweep over Florida Tech (0-1, 0-0 SSC) in its second match of the Union Volleyball Invitational, after battling Union (Tenn.) (1-0, 0-0 GSC) for five sets in the season opener.
MATCH ONE OVERVIEW
The Lions went back-and-forth with the Bulldogs for five sets in the first match of the 2021 season, including taking the second and third sets, before falling, 3-2, in the match.
Lindenwood finished with more kills than Union (Tenn.) in each set, including a 16-9 discrepancy in the second set. In total, the Lions tallied 75 kills to the Bulldogs' 51, but also finished with 18 more errors in the match (34-16). The Lions also bested their opposition in assists, 67-38, and digs, 70-62.
In the team's second set win, Lindenwood trailed early, 8-5, before rounding off five-straight points to take a 10-8 advantage. Countered by a 5-0 run by the Bulldogs, the two teams would trade points until the Lions trailed, 20-16. After summoning their second 5-0 run of the set, and continuing to trade blows with the opponent, Lindenwood would end the set on a 3-0 run to tie the match at 1-1.
The third set victory by the Lions included 17 kills on a .222 attack percentage, as Lindenwood took an early lead and did not look back, capturing a 25-19 victory and taking a 2-1 lead in the match. A 7-0 comeback effort, down 10-5, was not enough for the team as they ultimately fell in the inaugural match of 2021.

MATCH TWO OVERVIEW
Dominating their way to a 3-0 sweep of Florida Tech, Lindenwood amassed 41 kills over three sets to the competitor's 18. The Lions finished the victory over the Panthers with a .333 hitting percentage. Lindenwood stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with more aces, 10-2, assists, 37-15, and digs, 48-25, than Florida Tech.
The first set was won in 25-12 fashion by the Lions, after they recorded 15 kills, and held the opposition to six kills. In the opening set, Lindenwood had three rallies of 5-0 unanswered runs, and two 7-0 runs. The Lions closed the first set on a 16-3 run.
Lindenwood went up 2-0 on a 25-11 second set win, totaling 12 kills, and tallying a .360 hitting percentage. After the Panthers cut the gap to eight points in the second set, 19-11, the Lions rallied off six-consecutive points.
The third and final set, giving the Lions their first victory of the campaign, was won by a score of 25-14. Lindenwood capped off the match with 14 kills and a .391 attack percentage in the last set. Looking to close the match on a high note, Lindenwood finished with nine of the last 10 points.
