The Lindenwood women's basketball team (8-6, 5-2 GLVC) earned a commanding 74-57 win over William Jewell (1-14, 0-9 GLVC) on Thursday night inside Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.
Â
GAME OVERVIEW
The Cardinals came out swinging, as they hit six of their first eight attempts including a pair of three pointers to take a 14-6 lead. Lindenwood was able to apply pressure and slow the offensive production by William Jewell. Near the end of the first quarter,
Mary McGrath knocked down a three-point shot to give the Lions a 19-18 lead. The Cardinals had the better of the Lions in the first quarter, taking a one-point lead into the break.
Â
Lindenwood caught fire in the second quarter, which started with a two-point bucket by
Julia Ruzevich with less than five minutes to go in the half.Â
Devin Fuhring drained a three pointer to make it a 32-24 game, before her layup with 2:14 remaining made it a double-digit lead. The Lions took a 39-28 lead into halftime with the help of strong defensive play.
Â
William Jewell went 3-for-3 from behind the arc in the third period, but those were the only field goals made as they missed all six shots from inside the three-point line. Lindenwood spread the wealth in the third frame, as
Alana Striverson dished out three assists, and
Gracie Neff handed out a pair.
Â
Lindenwood turned up the heat on offense in the fourth quarter, while the Cardinals also shot well from the field. Ruzevich was locked in down the stretch, as her three pointer at the 7:02 mark made it a 59-44 ballgame.Â
Paige Craft extended the lead to 16 points, after her three-pointer put the Lions in from 69-53 with less than four minutes to go in the game. The Lions continued to outpace the Cardinals, and rolled to a 74-57 win on Thursday.
