Comeback Comes Up Short for Women's Basketball

The Lindenwood women's basketball team (9-9, 6-5 GLVC) lost 82-69 on Monday to Southern Indiana (15-3, 9-1 GLVC) inside Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.
 
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood fell behind early in the first quarter, but a three-pointer by Devin Fuhring cut the deficit to four near the halfway point.  Southern Indiana picked up the pace and ended the first frame with a 24-11 lead.  The Screaming Eagles built a 20-point lead at the 8:15 mark of the second quarter to put the Lions in a deep hole.  Ellen McCorkle made it a 37-24 ballgame with less than two minutes to go in the half, but Southern Indiana kept brought its lead back to 15 points at the break.
 
Lindenwood picked up the efficiency in the offensive zone in the third quarter, hitting 5-of-7 from the field, including 3-of-4 from behind the arc.  However, the Screaming Eagles kept pace and hits 9-of-10 from the charity strip to hold a 65-44 lead after 30 minutes of play.  After holding a 80-59 lead with 4:05 to go in the game, the Screaming Eagles struggled by the defensive pressure of the Lions in the fourth quarter.
 
Fuhring hit a three pointer, while McCorkle knocked down a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 16 points.  Alana Striverson hit a three-point shot with 2:35 remaining, as Gracie Neff followed with a couple of made free throws to cut the game to 80-69 with just 1:43 to go in the game.  The late comeback fell short in the 82-69 loss on Monday.
