The Lindenwood women's basketball team fell to No. 4 Drury 58-69 in a tough GLVC matchup on Saturday in Hyland Arena.
The Lions had a 9-0 lead to open the game, which propelled Lindenwood to come out of the first period winning 16-13.
Devin Fuhring led the way with seven of those points, while
Julia Ruzevich knocked down five.
The momentum shifted slightly in the second though, because the Panthers were able to hold Lindenwood to only nine more points, while Drury racked up 16 more, pushing themselves ahead by four going into the half. The Panthers shot 54.5% from the floor, while the Lions could only muster up 30%, with Fuhring leading the charge again, this time with four of the nine second-period points.
Once the Lions took the floor again, however, Ruzevich hit a huge milestone three minutes in. At 7:35, the 6-1 guard was fouled while she made her layup, drawing the and-one on her 999th career point. Ruzevich stepped up, made her free throw, and broke the 1,000-point mark with ease. This makes her the sixth player to accomplish this in the NCAA era of Lindenwood women's basketball.
Lindenwood could not come out on top, however, leaving the third period down 36-52, struggling to get that team field-goal percentage back up, that is, until later in the fourth quarter.
The Lions were able to get a second wind of sorts, attempting to close the gap as the game clock ran out. Lindenwood cleaned up their shooting drastically, going 6-10 from the floor, 3-4 from outside the arc and 7-8 from the free throw line.
Ruzevich knocked down 10 of the Lions 22 fourth-period points, while
Alana Striverson put up eight. Striverson also contributed three big rebounds and one steal to her last quarter stat line.
Next, the Lions will travel to Indianapolis to take on the UIndy Greyhounds on Monday for a 5:30 p.m. EST tip-off.
