The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (0-1) opened the season with a loss to Stanford (1-0) by a 3-0 final on Wednesday night in Stanford, Calif.

OVERVIEW
The 2022 men's volleyball season began with the matchup between the Cardinal and Lions. Lindenwood scored the first point of the season on a kill by
Cal Werths. The two teams played to a 10-10 tie in the first set, but the Cardinal put together a 6-1 run to take a commanding lead. Stanford closed out the opening frame with a 25-16 win.

Stanford rolled to a 25-14 win in the second set with the help of five service aces. Lindenwood bounced back to play a quality third set, as
Diego Negron started with a kill. Stanford took a 9-5 lead, but the Lions responded with three-straight points to make it a 9-8 deficit. The Cardinal found a run of points to take control, and move to a 25-18 win in the final set.

Negron led the Lions with seven kills on 16 attempts, while
Phil Swartz tallied five kills.Â
Connor Sheehan compiled 19 assists, and added a team-high two service aces. Lindenwood hit .113 in the match, compared to a .472 hitting percentage by the Cardinal.
