The Lindenwood men's hockey team (1-6-0) dropped the series opener to AIC (3-2-2, 2-1-0 AHA) by a score of on Saturday night from Springfield, Mass.
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood found themselves on the penalty kill early and often in the opening frame as they racked up four penalties, totaling 19 minutes. AIC used the man advantage to take the early lead at the 5:19 mark of the opening period. The Yellow Jackets extended their lead at the 14:55 mark of the period and would take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
Roni Salmenkangas finished the opening 20 minutes of play with 16 saves.
AIC extended its lead to 3-0 less than five minutes into the second period. Lindenwood generated some momentum late in the period, earning a powerplay opportunity, but the Yellow Jackets maintained a three-goal advantage with some near misses.
The Yellow Jackets added two quick goals in the final period to grab a 5-0 lead. Lindenwood was unable to find the back of the net on the night and was shutout for the second time this season.
