Football Hosts William Jewell on Saturday

The Lindenwood football team (5-2) will face a familiar foe on Saturday, as the Lions host former GLVC opponent in William Jewell (1-7) for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.

The Lions are riding a three-game winning streak after a 33-18 win over Murray State on Saturday.  Darion Bolden made the play of the game on a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown, which resulted in OVC Defensive Player of the Week honors.  Bolden ended the game with two interceptions with two more pass breakups.

Payton Rose set a new program record for receiving yards in a career on his first catch of the game.  Rose now has 2,933 yards and 30 touchdown while wearing the black and gold.  Brister tossed three touchdown passes in the game, two of which went to Kobe Smith.  Mann McGruder made a game-high 14 tackles on Saturday, while a Sterlin Williams registered a sack in the game to bring his season total to 5.5.

In the recent FCS Coaches Poll, the Lions received two votes, the second time this year Lindenwood has appeared in the weekly poll.  The Lions have won three-consecutive games, as the only two losses on the year have come to teams currently ranked in the top-25 (#14 Southeast Missouri State and #18 UT Martin).

Brister is averaging 358.4 total offensive yards per game, which is the third-most at the FCS level.  Bolden is just one pass defended off from the FCS leader, as the St. Louis, Mo. native has 11 pass breakups and two interceptions.  Rose is posting receiving yardage numbers that are near the top in the nation, as the Cumberland, Wis. native has tallied 716 yards through seven games.

Lindenwood and William Jewell will meet for the 18th time, as the Lions have won the last six games.  In 2021, the Lions handled the Cardinals in a 53-10 victory on the road.  Rose had a big day, as he went for 143 yards on eight catches with three touchdowns.  Cole Dugger threw for 303 yards and five touchdown passes in the first half.
