Neitzke Scores Twice in Loss For Women's Hockey

The Lindenwood women's hockey team (0-5-0, 0-1-0 CHA) fell by a score of 4-3 to No. 12 Penn State in its first game in 28 days on Friday night from Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.

GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions started the game on the penalty kill as Penn State opened the game with a push. In the period, the Nittany Lions compiled 21 shots, including 13 on goal, but it would be Lindenwood who found the back of the net first. On the man advantage, Rachel Goff pounced on a rebound, assisted by Teagan Heaslip and Molly Henderson. Penn State would tie the game, 1-1 two minutes later, which would be the score after 20 minutes of play.

Lndenwood would use the powerplay once again to grab a 2-1 lead at the 3:42 mark of the second period, when Morgan Neitzke executed a beautiful wrap-around goal. Quinn McLaren and Sarah Davies picked up assists on the go-ahead goal. The Nittany Lions would tie the game, 2-2, scoring a shorthanded goal at the 8:28 mark of the middle frame. The Nittany Lions would net a late tally on the man advantage to take a 3-2 lead into the intermission

The Lions killed off an early penalty in the final frame, as the penalty kill was 6-7 on the night. Penn State extended its lead at the 16:42 mark of the third period, making the score 4-2. The Lions kept battling, however, with Neitzke sliding one past the Penn State netminder with seven seconds left, as the score was 4-3. Emma Hoen and Brooke Pioske picked up assists on the tally. It was too little, too late, however, seeing the Nittany Lions earn the 4-3 victory.
