Field Hockey Has Win Streak Snapped by Kutztown in Overtime

ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Lindenwood field hockey team fell to Kutztown in a 2-3 OT loss in a neutral site game at Frostburg State on Monday afternoon.

"Today we battled hard as a team for 60+ minutes," said Head Coach Sarah Baumann. "We stuck to our game plan and every single player gave 100% on the field."

GAME OVERVIEW
After a scoreless first period, Kutztown struck first early on in the second, finally finding a way to break past Lindenwood's tough defense and taking a 1-0 lead. 10 minutes later, Mia Simpson found the back of the net with an unassisted goal, tying things up at ones before halftime.

Grace Clem netted the lone goal of the third period off the assist from Heidi van Dyk, pushing the Lions into the lead for the first time all day. However, with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation play, Kutztown went on to tie the game back up off a crafty, unassisted goal.

Both teams held strong enough to force the game into overtime, but Kutztown was able to end things with a goal after five minutes of overtime play, handing the Lions their first loss in five consecutive games.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Simpson and Clem both scored for the Lions, while van Dyk recorded the lone assist of the game.

Kyla Cooke played the full 66 minutes in net, recording an impressive 11 total saves on 25 shots faced. Her goalkeeping record now moves to 2-3 on the year.

"It is never easy to lose, but we are very proud of how relentless our team was," said Baumann. "Our defense played incredible against a very tough Kutztown squad that drew a ton of attacking opportunities. We are looking forward to taking the many positives from todays match into tomorrow and the rest of the season."
