The Lindenwood men's hockey team (0-3-0) fell short of an upset bid on Friday night, dropping the series opener to No. 7 Michigan (1-0-0, 0-0-0 B10) by a score of 7-4 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
GAME OVERVIEW
After killing off two early penalties against, Lindenwood found its footing, scoring two goals in a span of 1:43 to grab a 2-0 lead at the 14:36 mark of the opening period. The first tally was buried by
David Gagnon who converted a two-on one with
Ryan Finnegan. The second score was provided by
Andy Willis. Michigan cut the lead in half less than three minutes later, making the score 2-1, which would be the score after 20 minutes of play.
Trent Burnham wrapped up the period with 17 saves.
The Wolverines scored five quick goals in the second period, opening a 6-2 lead. The Lions kept battling as
Zach Aughe pulled one back late in the second period, assisted by
Kyle Jeffers and Gagnon. The score would be 6-3 at intermission.
Burnham kept the Lions in the game, making 16 saves in the final frame, as Lindenwood continued to chip away. The Lions earned a powerplay just passed the halfway point of the third period, which
Ryan Finnegan took advantage of. He was once again assisted by Jeffers and Gagnon. Michigan regained its three-goal cushion a few minutes later, as that would be the final score in the series opener.
