The Lindenwood women's hockey team (0-9-0, 0-4-0 CHA) dropped the series opener to St. Thomas (2-9-0, 0-8-0 WCHA) by a 4-1 score on Thursday from Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood was called for too many players on ice just 47 seconds into the game and the Tommies capitalized on the powerplay, grabbing a 1-0 lead at the 1:24 mark of the opening period. The Lions settled into the game and found the equalizer as
Morgan Neitzke and
Rachel Goff were on a partial break and Goof buried it, assisted by Neitzke and
Brooke Pioske at the 11:02 mark of the firs period.
Natalie Ferenc was strong in the frame, making 15 saves, as the score was 1-1 after 20 minutes of play.
The Lions once again found themselves on the penalty kill early and often in the second period. Although the kill was strong in the second for Lindenwood, killing four of five, the Tommies grabbed the lead at the 9:35 mark of the period, going ahead 2-1. St. Thomas would add another five minutes later, taking a 3-1 lead into the second intermission.
Lindenwood opened the third period with an early man advantage opportunity, but couldn't score. The Lions were unable to draw closer in the third, as the Tommies put the game away with a late goal in the third, taking the series opener, 4-1. In the game, Lindenwood controlled the faceoff dot, by a 41-25 margin.
