GAME OVERVIEW
Just like yesterday, the Tommies started quickly, netting two goals less than five minutes into the game, grabbing an early 2-0 lead. The Lions started to settle into the game and created some quality scoring chances. That pressure would eventually pay off as
Rachel Goff made a nifty move to slid one past the St. Thomas netminder at the 12:59 mark, assisted by
Brooke Pioske and
Quinn McLaren, making the score 2-1. The penalty kill was strong in the period, killing off both chances against as the score was 2-1 after 20 minutes of play.
The defenses for both teams tightened up to begin the second period with scoring chances being limited. The Lions would find the equalizer just past the halfway point of the period when
Sarah Davies wristed one past the Tommies goaltender, tying the game 2-2. She was assisted by Thea Jorgensen. Just 23 seconds later, the Tommies would grab the lead again and they would take that 3-2 advantage into the locker room.
St. Thomas found another quick strike to begin the third period, lighting the lamp 39 seconds into the final frame, extending its advantage to 4-2. Lindenwood kept battling however, as
Morgan Neitzke found the back of the net on the man advantage, cutting the deficit to 4-3 at the 10:39 mark of the final frame. Goff and
Madilynn Hickey picked up assists on the score. The Lions kept up the pressure, especially with the goalie pulled late in the period, but St. Thomas found the empty net to earn the 5-3 win.
