The Lindenwood men's hockey team (4-9-0) fell to Wisconsin (5-8-0, 0-6-0 B10) by a score of 4-3 on Friday night from Madison, Wis.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions got off to a fast start as
Andy Willis and
Caleb Price teamed up for a give and go with price scoring his third goal in as many games to give Lindenwood an early 1-0 lead.
Aiden Yakimchuk also picked up a helper on the score. Wisconsin responded quickly, however, tying the game 1-1 less than two minutes later. The Badgers grabbed the lead at the 13:47 mark of the opening period after grabbing a loose puck and finding the back of the net, taking a 2-1 lead, which would be the score after 20 minutes of play.
Wisconsin registered the first 12 shots on goal in the second period, but
Trent Burnham denied them all. This allowed Lindenwood to tie the game on its first shot of the period, as
Drew Kuzma scored his first collegiate goal, assisted by
Ryan Finnegan and
David Gagnon, knotting the game 2-2. Burnham continued his strong play in the middle frame, stopping eight more shots, as the game was tied 2-2 after two periods.
Lindenwood grabbed a 3-2 lead at the 1:57 mark of the final period when Wisconsin pulled the goalie for an extra attacker on a delayed penalty. During the sequence, the Badgers played the puck back toward their own zone, but it ended up in the empty net. The goal was credited to
Joe Prouty. Burnham continued to stand tall in net, but the Lions took four penalties in the third period and Wisconsin scored on two of them. The Badgers tied the game at the 9:02 mark of the final frame and took the lead, 4-3 just over three minutes later. Both tallies came on the man advantage. Lindenwood was unable to find the equalizer falling by the 4-3 score in the series opener.
