The Lindenwood women's hockey team (2-12-0, 2-4-0 CHA) fell in the series finale to St. Cloud (9-8-0, 4-8-0 CHA) by a score of 402 on Saturday afternoon from Centene Community Ice Center.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions created a few quality chances in the opening period with two powerplay opportunities across the first 20 minutes of play. The game remained scoreless early, as
Julia Maguire was strong between the pipes, stopping 12 shots in the period.
Morgan Neitzke got the scoring started at the 16:40 mark of the period as she carried the puck into the zone and beat the Huskies netminder, giving Lindenwood a 1-0 lead.
Rachel Goff picked up an assist on the score. Just over a minute later, St. Cloud would tie it up as the score was tied 1-1 after 20 minutes.
The Lions earned an early man advantage opportunity in the second period, which they would capitalize on. Neitzke found the back of the net, again, assisted by
Chloe Corbin as Lindenwood took a 2-1 lead. That remained the score until late in the period when St. Cloud put home a rebound, tying the game 2-2 with just over two minutes to play in the period, which would be the score heading into the second intermission.
Lindenwood pushed for the go-ahead goal throughout the final frame, outshooting the Huskies 15-4 in the period. It would be St. Cloud who took the lead early, however, grabbing a 3-2 lead at the 2:47 mark of the period. Â The Lions generated most of their scoring chances on the man advantage, earning five powerplay opportunities in the final 20 minutes, but the St. Cloud penalty kill held strong, and did not allow a goal. The Huskies added a late empty-netter to seal the 4-2 win.
