The Lindenwood women's hockey team (0-7-0, 0-3-0 CHA) dropped the series opener with Syracuse (4-7-1, 3-0-0 CHA) by a final score of 4-1 on Friday night from Syracuse, N.Y.
GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood opened the game with some quality chances from
Kaitlin Finnegan and
Molly Henderson, but the score remained 0-0 early. Syracuse got on the board first, finding the back of the net at the 4:49 mark of the opening period, going up 1-0. Lindenwood responded with the next six shot attempts and earned a powerplay but were unable to find the equalizer on the man advantage. Syracuse doubled its lead late in the fist period and took a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
Lindenwood earned an early powerplay opportunity in the second period. Although the Lions didn't score on the man advantage,
Kaitlin Finnegan found the back of the net for the first time this year, making the score 2-1, she was assisted by
Morgan Neitzke. The score remained until the 16-minute mark of the middle frame, as the Orange regained their two-goal advantage late in the period and held a 3-1 advantage after 40 minutes of play.
Syracuse netted an early goal in the third period, extending its lead to 4-1. Lindenwood tried to chip away, getting some great looks on the powerplay in the third, but were unable to get any closer. The Lions dropped the series opener by a score of 4-1.
