The Lindenwood women's hockey team (0-8-0, 0-4-0) dropped a tough 4-3 contest to Syracuse (5-7-1. 4-0-0 CHA) on Saturday afternoon from Syracuse, N.Y.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Orange got on the board just 1:37 into the game, grabbing an early 1-0 lead. They added another one five minutes later, doubling the lead at 2-0 at the 6:17 mark of the opening period. The Lions settled into the game and cut into the Syracuse lead, as
Morgan Neitzke scored her team leading sixth goal of the season, beating the netminder short side with less than four minutes to go in the period. She was assisted by
Quinn McLaren and
Sena Takenaka. Â The tally made it a 2-1 game, which would be the score after 20 minutes of play.
The Lions came with a push to begin the second period, generating five of the first six shots in the frame. However, the Orange kept a 2-1 advantage as the game continued. The Lions killed off a pair of penalties in the frame, as
Natalie Ferenc was strong between the pipes. Syracuse would regain its two-goal advantage late in the second period, picking up a loose puck and converting a breakaway chance. Lindenwood kept battling as
Olivia Grabianowski went hard to the net and scored her first collegiate goal, assisted by
Teagan Heaslip and
Molly Henderson, making the score 3-2 just before the second intermission.
Lindenwood found the equalizer early in the third period. After some pressure in the defensive zone,
Kaitlin Finnegan picked up a loose puck and found
Sarah Davies, who tied the game, 3-3 at the 4:25 mark of the final frame. The game continued 3-3 throughout the third period. Syracuse earned a late powerplay, which Lindenwood killed off. However, with six seconds left, the Orange netted the game-winning goal, earning the 4-3 victory.
