Football Celebrates Seniors to Close out 2022 on Saturday

The Lindenwood football team (6-3, 1-3 OVC) will close out the 2022 regular season on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff with McKendree (5-5, 2-4 GLVC) at Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.

Lindenwood is coming off a 35-34 loss to Tennessee Tech on Saturday, after the Lions missed a two-point attempt in the final second of the game.  Cade Brister threw for 303 yards, rushed for 49 yards, and collected five passing touchdowns.  Brister was named OVC Co Offensive Player of the Week, as he set a new school mark for the most games with 300 or more passing yards, which is now at seven.

Brister holds numerous records at Lindenwood, and a large part of his success has been Payton Rose.  The Cumberland, Wis. native will join Brister as one of the best players in program history.  Rose broke three major career receiving records, and will look to build off those impressive numbers on Saturday.

Along with Brister and Rose, three other seniors on the roster will hit the field one last time after spending their entire collegiate career in the black and gold.  Lloyd Lockett, Blake Rogenhofer, and Tayvian Weary each committed to Lindenwood straight out of high school.  Alex Scharf and Dominique Thornhill have been with the Lions for their careers as well, but will not be suited up due to injury.  Since 2018, the seniors helped lead the Lions to a 28-17 record, two conference championships, and the first playoff victory at the NCAA level in 2019.  The core group of seniors have posted a record of 12-3 inside Hunter Stadium in the past three seasons, the best stretch for the program in 10 years.

In addition, four juniors on the roster will play their final game in Hunter Stadium, after starting their college career in St. Charles.  Asa Baker, Chase Giorgi, Andrew Martin, and Clark Whitaker joined the list of high school commits that have worked their way to become Lindenwood graduates.

Lindenwood will look to earn its seventh victory of the season, as the Lions took down the Bearcats last season by a 45-30 margin.  In that game, Rose scored two times on just six catches, as the Lions completed its 14th-consecutive win in the conference.
