The Lindenwood women's basketball team (9-12, 6-8 GLVC) fell to Maryville (10-11, 6-9 GLVC) by a final score of 66-77 on Saturday.
OVERVIEW
The Lions had a 21-18 lead coming out of the first quarter, battling it out with the Saints on both sides of the ball. This lead was held for seven minutes, and Lindenwood was shooting well, going 7-13 from the floor and 4-4 from the free throw line with
Ellen McCorkle and
Julia Ruzevich each shooting two.
Ruzevich also began her 25 point-run for the day, which put her atop of the leaderboard for the Lions. The graduate senior also led the team on the boards, grabbing seven rebounds total for the Lions.
Lindenwood was outscored in the next three quarters, however, (13-16 2nd, 13-21 3rd) and they weren't able to close the gap until the fourth quarter, where three points from the Saints ended up making the difference (19-22 4th). Overall, the Lions ended up going 26-56 from the floor, but their free throw percentage remained at a perfect 100 for the entire game.
Hennessey Handy had 10 points and a team-leading seven assists, while also adding three rebounds and a block to her stat line against the Saints.
Alana Striverson and McCorkle each tallied nine points, and were active on defense throughout the game as well. McCorkle had the second-most rebounds of the day with five, while also contributing a block and three steals, and Striverson grabbed two rebounds and one assist.

The Lions will turn around and play Missouri S&T in a make-up game on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Hyland Arena.
