The Lindenwood women's basketball team (9-13, 6-9 GLVC) struggled to keep up with the hot shooting Missouri S&T (9-13, 6-10 GLVC) squad in a 92-79 loss on Monday night inside Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo. Prior to the game, Lindenwood honored
Julia Ruzevich and
Devin Fuhring for joining the 1,000-point club earlier this season.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Miners went off in the opening quarter, shooting 86.7 percent from the field including 4-of-5 from behind the arc.
Alana Striverson was locked in herself, hitting all three of her three pointers attempted in the first 10 minutes. The Lions and Miners were even in the second quarter, but the first half ended with a 51-35 lead for Missouri S&T.
After the third quarter, the Miners held a 22-point lead. However, like the Lions have done so all season, they continued to fight through the entirety of the game. At the eight-minute mark of the fourth quarter, Missouri S&T was ahead by a score of 76-49.
Ellen McCorkle went work and scored nine points in the next four minutes to cut the deficit to 15 points.
With 2:41 to play, McCorkle knocked down a three-point bucket to make it a 81-72 ballgame. Lindenwood played great pressure defense down the stretch, but the Miners hit key three pointer to hold on for the win. McCorkle ended the night with 27 points, while Striverson had a tough 25 points. Missouri S&T closed out the game with a 56.5 shooting percentage from the field, including 12 made three pointers on 22 attempts.
