Men’s Lacrosse Opens 2022 Campaign with Convincing Victory

The No. 11 Lindenwood men's lacrosse team (1-0, 0-0 GLVC) rolled to a 20-8 season-opening victory over No. 18 Rockhurst from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo. on Saturday afternoon. Lindenwood has now won its first game of the season in eight straight seasons dating back to the start of the 2015 campaign.

GAME OVERVIEW
Rockhurst took a one-goal lead just 93 seconds into the non-conference contest with a man-up goal. Lindenwood answered with back-to-back goals from Nolan Corker, to take a 2-1 lead with just over six minutes to play in the first quarter. The visitors scored three of the next four goals to close out the frame, taking a 4-3 lead into the second quarter of play.

The Lions came out charging in the second period, scoring three times in 1:55, to establish a 6-4 lead. Keese Zugehoer, Patrick Kaschalk, and Dylan Colon were the goal scorers during the pivotal stretch for Lindenwood. Kaschalk and Cam Smith would score before halftime for the Lions, helping Lindenwood carry a narrow 8-7 lead into the intermission.

Lindenwood completely dominated the final two quarters of play, outscoring Rockhurst by a 12-1 margin during that time, including a 7-0 advantage during the third quarter. Kaschalk added three more goals during the third quarter, bringing his total to a game-high five goals scored. Ryan Kemp netted three goals during the second half.

Blake Nolan started the game in goal for the Lions, stopping six of the 13 shots he faced. Kyle Hebert relieved Nolan for the final two frames, turning in five saves while allowing just one goal against.

The duo of Jony Major and Michael Miocic was pivotal in faceoff circle for Lindenwood, winning 21 of their 31 combined faceoff opportunities. Major won 16 of his 20 draws, recording 10 ground balls in the process.

Preston Borchardt, Colin Hunt, and Brian Kallberg each caused two turnovers in the game and were instrumental in quieting the Rockhurst offense for much of the second half.
