Women's Basketball Comes Up Short on Monday

The Lindenwood women's basketball team (9-11, 6-7 GLVC) lost to UIndy (9-11, 6-6 GLVC) by a final of 64-56 on Monday night in Indianapolis, Ind.
 
GAME OVERVIEW
UIndy took an early lead on the Lions, taking a seven-point lead with 4:18 to go in the first quarter.  Just four points were scored in the final two minutes of the opening frame, as the Lions tallied a pair of layups to bring the deficit to 14-10 after one quarter of play.  Lindenwood struggled from behind the arc, as all 10 points were scored in the paint.
 
The Greyhounds saw their lead grow to start the second quarter, but a three-pointer by Alana Striverson at made it a 21-17 ballgame.  The two squads battled back-and-forth, but UIndy locked in on the defensive end late in the half, resulting in a 31-24 advantage.  Ellen McCorkle kept the Lions within reach, as she compiled the final five Lindenwood points in the first half.
 
Lindenwood continued to fight, but a three-point shot by UIndy made it a 40-29 game with 6:26 remaining in the third quarter.  The Lions stayed focused and chipped away at the deficit, as a three-pointer by Striverson brought the Lions within three points.
 
After a UIndy bucket, Mary McGrath knocked down a three-pointer, making it just a two-point deficit.  Striverson got hot and drained a three-point bucket with 1:49 remaining in the third quarter to give the Lions a 47-46 lead.  Lindenwood seemed to have momentum going into the final quarter, with the scored tied at 48-48.
 
The two teams stayed even for the first five minutes, but the Lions began to cool off in the offensive zone.  UIndy took advantage and built a six-point lead with 44 seconds remaining.  Lindenwood attempted to complete the comeback, but the Greyhounds knocked down their free throws to earn the win over Lindenwood.
