Baseball Walks Off Second Game in Doubleheader Split on Sunday

The Lindenwood baseball team (10-8) split Sunday's doubleheader with Minnesota Duluth (5-5) at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

GAME ONE OVERVIEW
The Bulldogs registered a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.  Tyler Cassmeyer pitched well in the first game, as he went the distance for seven innings.  Cassmeyer struck out eight batters, and allowed just four hits as all of his runs allowed were unearned.  The Lions scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh on a Jayce Maag double to left center.  It was too little too late, as the Bulldogs grabbed the first game of the doubleheader by a final of 3-1.

GAME ONE LEADERS
Tyler Cassmeyer (7.0 IP, 8 K, 4 H, 0 ER)
Jayce Maag (2-for-2, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 3B, 1 2B)
Austin Schmitt (1-for-3)

GAME TWO OVERVIEW
Lindenwood bounced back in the second game, but still fell behind in the first frame by a 1-0 margin.  Jack Meyer tied the game in the bottom of the first inning with a sacrifice fly to bring in Will Lanxon.  Minnesota Duluth regained its lead in the top of the third inning, but the Lions clawed back in the bottom of the fourth.  With bases loaded, Lanxon drove in a pair of runs on a single through the left side of the field to give Lindenwood a 3-2 lead.

The Bulldogs tied the game in the top of the sixth and went ahead by two runs in the seventh.  Genesis Nunez sparked a rally in the seventh, as his single was followed with a base hit by Meyer.  After a pitching change, Will Henson belted a ball in the left center gap, and came all the way around to score on an inside-the-park home run.  Alex Gauspohl singled, stole second, and scored on an-RBI single by Maag to make it a 7-5 Lindenwood lead.

Lindenwood surrendered a run in the top of the eight, and another in the ninth as the Bulldogs tied the game at 7-7.  The Lions were aggressive on the bases in the bottom of the ninth, as they had bases loaded with two outs in the ninth.  Nunez put the ball in play, but a miscue by the Bulldogs allowed Lindenwood to score the game-winning run in the 8-7 victory.
