Strong Pitching Leads to Doubleheader Split for Baseball

The Lindenwood baseball team (11-9) split Friday's doubleheader with Indiana Pennsylvania (6-6) by finals of 3-2 and 12-6, respectively in Indiana, Pa.

GAME ONE OVERVIEW
Ryan O'Connell put together a strong performance on the mound for the Lions, as he compiled nine strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.  The Crimson Hawks scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, taking a 1-0 lead.  Jack Meyer tied the game up after a solo shot to left field to make it 1-1.  Indiana regained its lead after driving in a pair of runs on a double to left field.  Michael Ward brought Meyer in to score on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, but the Lions fell in the first game by a 3-2 margin.

GAME ONE LEADERS
Ryan O'Connell (6.0 IP, 9 K, 5 H)
Jack Meyer (1-for-2, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 HR, 1 BB)
Will Lanxon (2-for-3)

GAME TWO OVERVIEW
The Crimson Hawks took the first lead in the second game as well, this time scoring three runs on three hits and two errors in the bottom of the second frame.  Kolby Schulte cut the deficit to just two runs on an-RBI single to left field, but Indiana put up two more runs in the bottom half of the third to go ahead 5-1.

Austin Schmitt belted a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to make it a 5-3 ballgame.  The Crimson Hawks got one run back in the bottom of the fifth, but the Lions halted the runs for the opposition and stayed the course on offense.  Logan Katen was a big part of stopping the Crimson Hawks, as he tossed 4.2 innings and tallied nine strikeouts.  After scoring a run on a fielding blemish by Indiana, Sam Kissane drew a bases-loaded walk to make it a one-run game in the sixth inning.

Lindenwood scored on a passed ball in the seventh inning to tie the game at 6-6.  Alex Gauspohl put the Lions in front 8-6 on a two-RBI single, and later scored on a double by Lanxon to make it a three-run lead after seven innings.  Schmitt increased the lead to 11-6 in the eighth inning on a single that brought in a pair of runs.  Schulte closed out the scoring in the top of the ninth with an-RBI single to split Friday's doubleheader.
