Baseball Bested by Maryville in Doubleheader on Sunday

The Lindenwood baseball team (19-14, 8-4 GLVC) lost both games of Sunday's doubleheader to Maryville (17-15, 7-5 GLVC) at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.  Maryville took game one by a final of 9-2, before closing out the weekend with a 8-5 win in the second game.
 
GAME ONE OVERVIEW
The Saints jumped on the board early, scoring six runs in the first three innings.  Maryville added a pair of runs in the fourth frame, and another in the fifth to take a 9-0 lead.  Lindenwood crossed the plate for the first time in the sixth inning, after Michael Ward drove in Kolby Schulte on a sacrifice fly.  The Lions added another run in the seventh inning on a solo homer by Will Henson in the 9-2 loss.

GAME TWO OVERVIEW
The Lions fell behind in the top of the fourth, after the Saints put up six runs on four hits.  Lindenwood quickly responded to cut into the deficit in the bottom half of the inning.  Ethan Abercrombie brought a run across the plate on a fielder's choice, while a single by Schulte added another run.  Colin Shea drove in a pair of runs on a double down the left field line to make it 6-4.
 
With runners on second and third with one out in the eighth inning, the Lions were able to score on a wild pitch.  Both runners were stranded in the inning to keep the deficit to one run.  Maryville added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth, securing the 8-5 win.
