Pitching Performances Pace League Sweep

The Lindenwood softball team (26-4, 13-1 GLVC) bounced back with a league twin bill sweep on Saturday, downing the visiting Missouri S&T Miners (18-16, 6-6 GLVC) in both games from Lou Brock Sports Complex.

Junior Amanda Weyh spun a gem in the opener, allowing just one hit and striking out five in the complete-game, 6-0 shutout. Pitching partner Marina Esparza was no slouch herself in the finale, recording seven strikeouts over seven frames to win, 6-1.

GAME ONE OVERVIEW
The Lions' offense came alive in the fourth, scoring three runs off hits from freshmen Irelynn West and Lauren Pelton. West sliced a triple to left-center field, plating Whitney Wendel and Morgan Gersch before Pelton singled home her rookie teammate two batters later.

After Whitney Kinser forced Taylor Bushman across the plate in the fifth, Wendel chased her home with a opposite-field two-bagger to up the lead to 5-0. Lindenwood added another run in the sixth for good measure, with pinch-runner Theresa Snaidauf sliding across the plate following a wild pitch by Miners' southpaw Julia Kanoy.

Weyh spun a gem, carrying a perfect game into the seventh inning. The Mokena, Ill., product struck out five and allowed just one hit to move to 15-0 on the season.

GAME ONE LEADERS
Weyh (7.0 IP, 5 K, 1-for-4, R)
Bushman (2-for-4, 3 SB, R)
Wendel (2-for-3, RBI, R)
West (1-for-3, 2 RBI, R)

GAME TWO OVERVIEW
The Miners broke through first in the finale, with Taylor Caton scoring Bryn Wooldridge in the second inning. However, it would be the only offense Missouri S&T would manage, as Esparza shut down 14 of the final 15 visiting hitters to improve to 9-4 from the circle.

Pelton put the Lions on the board in the fourth, clearing the bases with a three-run double down the left-field line. Lindenwood tacked on three more two innings later, with Wendel doubled home Weyh and Nicole Henson to increase the lead – and eventual final score – to 6-1.

Pelton went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish in night cap, while four Lions swiped a bag in the win.

GAME TWO LEADERS
Pelton (3-for-3, 3 RBI, 2B)
Esparza (7.0 IP, 7 K, 2 H)
Wendel (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2B, R)
