Baseball Plays Two Tight Games in Doubleheader Split with Maryville

The Lindenwood baseball team (19-12, 8-2 GLVC) splits Saturday's doubleheader with Maryville (15-15, 5-5 GLVC) at Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

GAME ONE OVERVIEW
Ryan O'Connell continued his strong season on the mound, as he carried a no-hitter through five innings.  Lindenwood scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth on a single by Sam Kissane.  The Lions posted a big inning in the bottom of the fifth frame, as Jayce Maag opened the scoring.  Kolby Schulte drove in a run before Michael Ward doubled to left center, bringing in a pair of runs.  Kissane registered another RBI single to bring in the fifth run of the inning and a 6-0 lead for the Lions.

Maryville began to chip away, scoring one run in the top of the sixth inning, and three more in the seventh.  The Saints put up another run in the ninth, but Jacob Thompson closed the door by retiring the final two batters and left the tying run stranded on third base to secure the 6-5 victory.

Kissane laid down a bunt to start the inning, reaching base on the first pitch.  Alex Gauspohl earned a bunt single of his own to put runners on first and second with just one out.  Maag followed with a triple to right center, cutting the deficit to just two runs.  Maryville scored an insurance run in the top of the sixth, as the Lions were not able to get another run across the plate in the 4-2 loss.
